Litograph in colour, cm 205x100, in mint condition and backed on linen. Pinocchio was produced by Walt Disney Productions and released to American theatres by RKO Radio Pictures on February 7, 1940, but, because of Fascist prohibitionism it was distributed in Italy only in 1946-47 (the poster quotes: "The movie that all the Italian public is waiting for). It was not commercially successful when first released, and Disney only recouped about half of its $2.3 million budget. Although a free interpretation of the Collodi story, it is considered a masterpiece of the art of animation and was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the U.S.National Film Registry. The novel is internationally considered among the masterpieces of the Italian literature; the first half was originally a serial between 1881 and 1883, and then later completed as a book for children in February 1883. The first edition is extremely rare, the first translation into English was published in 1892.
